Pembs Radio Society... looking back to 1968 de M6ATK

I have been in contact with gw0guy in Haverfordwest as I have some old photo's of some members of the club and some of the things we used to get up to way back in 1968, which I thought may be of interest to your members and for the club archive.

In the top picture I am the good looking one on the right but not so good looking now hi, I am hoping to have a qso with the club this Friday but gw0guy and I have each others phone numbers so will arrange details in the next day or so, if you zoom in on the pictures the text becomes quite clear.

Bill Mawston who is sadly no longer with us, was a great friend of mine and we spent many hours on the air in his shack.

David Roberts is now living up in London, I did manage to track him down about 12 months ago but he said all his gear is up in the attic and not used it for years.

As for any one else, only you down there may know who they are in these photos.

Hope to talk to you all at the club, and perhaps a regular qso from time to time.

Bodging a morse paddle..

A few weeks ago I got it into my head that I wanted to try out a morse paddle......

One problem....... I don't have a morse paddle...

But I do have a few morse keys.

Half an hour later, and a stereo jack and some wood/nails/saw/hammer...and I was sending CQ on my new "MJB" morse paddle.

I've heard of people successfully using a computer mouse as a paddle......probably my next project.... :0)

20m Delta Loop....de MW0BBU.

While trawling through various sites I came across this from LA8OKA.

Now I remember having something similar up at MW0BBU several years ago.

The one I had was really good for SWR, quite wide in its bandwidth, was really good on receive, gave out a really good signal.. wait for it..... It rang my Telephone every time I used it, much to the non amusement of the household.

To be fair, when I reduced the power all was ok.

Seeing this has made me wonder how well it may do me for my QRP exploits.
Worth a go me thinks.

Steve... MW0BBU.

All credits to LA8OKA for the drawing and dimensions.

Satellite contact for February de MW0MJB

I was only QRV on the ham sats from the 18th of February.

So not many contacts went in the log book.

Here are the few I worked.....

MM0KJG AO51
UT1FG/MM AO51
EA1GAR AO27
G0HIK AO27
DH1DHC VO52
F1DOI AO7
UR4HD AO51
2E0SQL SO50

I tried listening for AO27 on vertical polarization, but after a few days it became apparent that horizontal was best.

Both AO27 and AO51 work ok on vertical receive, but the horizontal position is far better in my opinion.

Off to the hills......

I seem to be getting a lot of interference on the radio lately, thought my QRM poem was very apt considering the noise at MW0MJB.

QRM Blues

If it wasn't for the T.V.
and the thermostatic clicks,
and the noisy pink vibrators,
and the switch mode powered things.

If it wasn't for the cars
running up and down the road
I wouldn't need DSP
to lighten the static load.

If it wasn't for the neighbours
creating electronic smog
I wouldn't have to write
this bloody sodding blog..

But there is an answer
to the QRM blues......
Buy a tent and camp
on any hill you choose.

Take your leisure battery
Set up your antenna mast
Switch on the rig....

RF peace at last………….
